About the process

Below is a detailed look into our process and what can be expected from PLR and the journey your bouquet takes with us.

- Once you’ve been to our “Make A Booking” page and entered all of your information, you will receive a $100 deposit invoice that secures your bouquet’s place in our calendar. This will come off the total of your order.

- A week or two before your event, you will be contacted to arrange handover of your flowers. I try my best to organise handovers at the Jack Mann oval in Midland, but having two young children and running a business with a FIFO partner can make it difficult. If I’m unable to meet you in Midland, my studio is based in Mundaring which is just a short 15 minute trip up Great Eastern Highway. I am also able to pick up bouquets from your wedding location or home depending on time and day. This will incur a travel fee.

- Once I have your flowers, they will go into fresh water for an hour or two to rehydrate them (unless already preserved or dried), then they will be placed into silica for up to 6 weeks. Native flowers like proteas and gum nuts can hold a lot of moisture so if your flowers require a little more drying time, they will be placed into fresh silica for another week or two. Please allow 8 weeks before contacting us to check in on your flowers as too much handling or removing them prematurely can cause unnecessary damage. Sometimes they may stay in silica longer due to the fact the mold you’ve booked is in use.

-We also dry your flowers according to your order. Eg. if you order 8 coasters and nothing else, all of your flowers will be pressed. So asking for a tealight holder or ring holder after they’re dry isn’t impossible but you wouldn’t have any freeform flowers to place in it. Just something to keep in mind when placing your order

- Likewise if you only place an order that would require a single bouquet and you bring us four?! We won’t dry all of them on the off chance you decide to add more items down the track. There will usually be one or two flowers we’ll dry as back up if you’d like to add something on, but that will all depend on how everything progresses. If there are any flowers remaining and you would like them back, that’s absolutely possible, there is just a small $15 packing fee.

- If any flowers are unable to be dried such as anthuriums, berries or succulents we can discuss replacing them with fake replicas. We can also replace any flowers that have been damaged beyond repair through our wholesaler. Any extra costs related to the flowers will be added to your invoices.

- When your order is ready to be started, you will be invoiced according to your selection in the booking form. Payment must be made before any design work or casting can be done. Designs are offered for the cubes (18cm and up), 35cm circle, serving trays, large arch, large hexagons and the large heart. You can of course request specific flowers for some items like ring holders or trinket trays but this must be done prior to drying to ensure they are prepared correctly.

- Coasters, trinket trays, serving trays & charcuterie boards all require flowers to be pressed or cut in half if it’s something like a protea or banksia.

- Occasionally we are able to colour correct some flowers. Most frequently we will brighten white flowers like roses and carnations if required. Small blemishes created by handling may present themselves after they come into contact with resin. Unfortunately this is not something we can predict or correct. Think of them as the fingerprints of your most important memories.

- Your large piece (if you’ve ordered one) will be created first as that is your focus item. Then any add ons will be made. Each piece requires at minimum two layers and depending on what type of resin is required (we have four!) every layer can take 1 to 6 days to be cured enough for the next layer. Large pieces can take up to 15 layers to create.

- Some pieces will require sanding and polishing or top coating. Top coating can be the trickiest stage as the smallest hair or bubble can affect the look of the entire piece and sometimes will need to be completely redone. This means more sanding & more top coating to be done in near perfect temperatures. Phew!!!

- When all of that is said and done, your pieces need to cure for a further three to four weeks to ensure maximum hardness. If we don’t make sure everything is fully cured, it can dent or scratch in transit which would be awful after all of that work and waiting.

- We’ll contact you to organise handover of your pieces. This can be done at the Jack Mann oval, my studio or they can be posted back to you. If you’d like to have them returned via post, you will be invoiced for the cost of packaging and postage. We always offer an upgrade to express for free!
